    Leaving tomorrow!

    Hey everyone,

    I’m preparing to leave tomorrow on a ten week photography trip right now! I’ll be photographing fall color throughout the Blue Ridge, wildlife in Texas, and winter scenes throughout Canyon Country! To say that I’m excited is a huge understatement.

    The first leg of my trip is six days in West Virginia, with Chris Kayler. We’re leaving tomorrow night after I complete a “court-ordered juvenile driving seminar”. I couldn’t be more excited about that either. After leaving West Virginia, I plan to make my way down to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I’ll certainly have a lot to say on here over the next few days, so stay tuned!

    It may be a few days before I get back on to post again, so here’s another Shenandoah shot.

    More Shenandoah!

    This is another from the Shenandoah outing with Chris and Kari. I know we’d all prefer a more photogenic foreground in this photo, but photographing this sunset was a spur-of-the-moment deal and I made the most of what I had available to me! I do like the inclusion of the sun in my shot, but I still feel like it may be missing something. Oh well. Don’t be a stranger, feel free to say something if you so desire!

    Shenandoah National Park

    On September 17th, I went out to Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park, VA. I was with Chris Kayler and Kari Post. We went up there hoping to photograph White-Tailed Deer. Bucks, in particular. Unfortunately, there were no bucks to be found. We came close to successfully photographing two different Black Bears, but it just didn’t work out. Bummer.

    Anyhow, we stuck around Big Meadows waiting for the sunset and hoping on the off-chance of a Buck or two coming out to join us. One of those things happened and the other didn’t. I’m sure you can figure that one out.

    Here are two shots I made of stacked ridges at sunset. In a way, its a very typical scene throughout all of Appalachia, but I found the skies to be exceptionally red, so I’m quite happy with these.

    More More More Great Falls!

    Hey Folks,

    Here’s the last of my Great Falls shots for the year. I swear! I won’t have any more mornings to spend at Great Falls until next year. I’m quite excited, actually. I’m just a few days away from beginning a massive photo trip. I’ll be leaving on the First of October, and getting back in Mid-December. I plan to photograph Autumn foliage throughout the Blue Ridge, Wildlife in Texas, and wintry desert scenes throughout the southwest. It’s going to be a marathon, and it’s going to put my dedication to test, but I know I can do it!

    Be sure to check back for updates as I plan on updating as much as possible from the road.

    Anyways, this photo was taken during the little “group outing” on September 14th. Joe, Chris, Pini, and I all made some quality images in the breaking fog at sunrise.

    Here’s a photo from one of my many Great Falls outings from this and last month. All morning the clouds looked like they were going to produce more dramatic light than this, but I’ll take it however it comes! Some ambitious work on CS3 really makes a shot stand out from time to time.

    In this post you’ll see yet another shot from one of my many Great Falls sunrises with Chris Kayler. On this particular morning, the sky was fairly overcast, and the color never really came out any more then this. I still think this was a nice scene. It was on this morning that I came across a really attractive bit of lichens on the overlook rocks that I hope to utilize with better light.

    Update

    I’ve been spending a ridiculous amount of time in preparation for a rather lengthy trip this fall and winter. I’ll be photographing autumn foliage throughout the Blue Ridge, Wildlife in Texas, and winter desert scenes throughout Arizona and Utah. My journey begins in the West Virginia highlands, and should wrap up around Capitol Reef NP, Utah. I’ll be out for over two months, and I absolutely can’t wait.

    Anyhow, enough about that. This is yet another Great Falls shot from the trip with Joe, Chris, and Pini. I used the backlit fog to my advantage, and composed with a somewhat unique composition (for me, at least.

    Great Falls

    Here’s a shot from a recent outing to Great Falls with Joe Rossbach, Chris Kayler, and Pini Goldman. It was quite foggy on the gorge when we arrived, but it cleared a half hour or so after the sun rose. This is one of the few vertical compositions I tried. I wish the fog broke up a few minutes earlier, but I’m happy with this shot regardless.
