    Update from Death Valley

    12.07.08 | Permalink | 2 Comments

    Hey everybody,

I’m catching some wi-fi from the Visitor Center here at Furnace Creek, which is inside Death Valley National Park. I’ve been having some nice light out here, and the scenery is just fantastic… Almost looks like another planet out here.

Here are two shots from Aguerreberry Point last night.

I need to shoot more verticals…

Hey everyone! I made it through Crap Vegas, which I consider to be the armpit of the Southwest. I treated myself to dinner at an Indian restaurant. It had been too long. Anyhow, I’m now writing this from the parking lot of a Pahrump, NV Wal-Mart. I’m probably about an hour and a half from where I’m going to sleep tonight, and then I’m off to Death Valley for sunrise tomorrow! I’m excited, and I can’t wait to spend the better part of the next 4-5 days exploring back roads and photographing.

Also, another thing that excites me is that I had 81 blog views today. That’s more than I’ve ever had in a day, and by quite a bit. Thanks to everybody who looked. That may not be a large sum of hits for some of you, but it was enough to get me excited.

Here’s one from the Grand Canyon two weeks ago. I need to shoot more verticals.

    Done with the Buttes!

    Hey everybody,

I’ve spent the last few days shooting at Coyote Buttes North, South, and the White Pocket. It was AWESOME. Such a cool part of the desert. The geography there is just ridiculous. I’m amazed by what erosion can do to sandstone. I can’t wait to get back out there next time I’m in the area!

I’m headed out to Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada today, and then I’m off to Death Valley for a few days! I hadn’t anticipated making it that far west, but I shaved a few days off my itinerary for other locations, and made it fit.

This first image is from Coyote Buttes South. I climbed up towards the top of a formation, and found these rocks to use as a foreground.

The second image is from the North section, and is from a spot called the “second wave.”

Finally, this one was from the actual “wave.” The light was less than ideal, so I focused on photographing smaller sections of the formation.
