Lichens!

Here’s one from the a while back. After a far less than exciting sunset shoot at Southwestern Colorado’s famous Dallas Divide, I came across these interesting lichens.

I have so many images to process! Here’s one from last March. I kayaked out to “White Pelican Island” near Placida, Florida. It was one heck of a paddle to get out there, and over the course of two and a half hours, I only made one image that I like.

Northern Shrike

Hey everybody,

Check out this image I made today of a Northern Shrike. I’ve always had quite a hard time with these birds, and was pretty excited when I came across this one, thanks to a few other photographers.

Hey everybody,

A few weeks ago, I met up with my friend and fellow nature photographer, Joe Rossbach, for a morning shoot at Great Falls National Park, Virginia. I was running a bit late, despite living about 10 minutes away, and just barely got my gear set up before the beautiful red and pink hues faded away. I wasn’t too high on the idea of visiting this time of year due to the bare trees, but after this visit I find myself liking the way they look at Great Falls.

I’ve processed this on my laptop, so colors may be a little off, in which case I’ll revise the post when I return home.

Brown-capped, Gray-crowned, and Black Rosy-Finches, Elk Mountains, Gunnison National Forest, Colorado

Hey everybody,

I’m currently on a family vacation in Colorado. There’s no way I’m going to travel to this beautiful state without packing my photo gear! I snowshoed up Shrine Pass, which didn’t yield any photographs I’m happy with, and I took a much more successful day trip down to Gunnison, in search of Rosy-Finches. Thanks to the help of some extremely kind and generous residents of Gunnison that I ran into, I was directed to a spot where I found and successfully photographed all three species of Rosy-Finches: Brown-capped Rosy-Finches, Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches, and Black Rosy-Finches, pictured below in that order.

Massive update!

12.31.09 | Permalink | Post a Comment

Wow, it sure has been a while since I posted a blog entry. If you scan through some posts over the past six months or so, I’m sure you’ll see multiple instances in which I’ve promised that I’m back for good, and that I’ll finally start posting more, and so on and so forth. Well, I mean it this time, hehe…

So, let me get you all up to date with what I’ve had going on lately! So, I was informed this September that I have received the award of “Youth Photographer of the Year” from Nature’s Best Photography Magazine’s Windland Smith Rice International Awards. They’ve chosen my image titled Barred Owl Stare. You can view a youtube video featuring all of the photographs here. A four-by-six foot print of my image, along with several dozen other stunning nature photographs are on display at the Smithsonian Institute’s Museum of Natural History right here in Washington, D.C. until May. It’s a fantastic exhibit, and I highly recommend you pay it a visit if you’re in the area!

On a less exciting note, I flipped my car over! Oops. Luckily, I was only going 20MPH, and was wearing a seat belt. I’m gonna try and keep all 4 wheels on the ground from here on out. Wish me luck!

Now I’ll get back to the important stuff. I have a new website, which I suppose is quite obvious if you’re viewing this blog. Over the next few weeks I’ll be putting the finishing touches on, adding my info pages, integrating print sales, and a couple hundred photographs! I hired Jack Brauer at Widerange Galleries to design my site, and he was extremely pleasant and helpful throughout the process. I don’t want it to sound like this is an advertisement for his work, but man, is it good!

One additional thing I’d like to share is that I’ve made facebook and twitter pages for my photography. You can access them here and here.

Fall Foliage, Green Mountains National Forest, Vermont

Hey everybody,

I figure I’ll share an additional photo as I’m processing my shots from this trip. The fall foliage was really amazing during the first week of October up in the Green Mountains. There were plenty of reds, oranges, yellows, and not a whole lot of green.

Moss Glen Falls, Deer Hollow Brook, Granville Reservation, Green Mountains National Forest, Vermont

Hey everybody,

Last week, I spent time with Chris Kayler and Joe Rossbach photographing fall foliage in the Green Mountains of Vermont! The color was excellent up there, and it rained just about every day, providing almost perfect conditions for photographing the colorful foliage, rushing streams, and beautiful waterfalls that the Green Mountains are so famous for having.

Here’s a shot I made on a rainy day at Moss Glen Falls. Moss Glen Falls is truly one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve had the chance to photograph so far. I spent hours and hours there photographing it from every possible angle I could come up with. Here’s a favorite.
